History of the Ram 1500

The Ram 1500 launched in 1994, replacing the original Ram 150 pickups that themselves replaced the Dodge D Series pickup. With stout V6 and V8 engines - and the first-ever factory V10-powered truck - the truck quickly gained a reputation for reliability, in-segment performance, and durability. Now in its fourth generation, it still offers many of the same features that made it famous back in 1994, like a HEMI V8 engine and 6.5- or 8.0-foot bed lengths.

Used Ram vs. Used Ford

A used Ram truck generally offers superior interior comfort compared to a used Ford truck, but that isn't the only reason you should consider one. Ram also offers an air suspension that typically provides a more comfortable ride and has towing benefits. Furthermore, Ram offers diesel engine options on all its trucks, so if you're looking for a diesel, you might have more luck with a Ram. Especially since Ford only offered a diesel engine in the Ford F-150 - the Ram 1500's direct competitor - for three model years, from 2018 until 2021.

Used Ram vs. Used Chevy

Both used Ram trucks and used Chevy trucks offer impressive towing capacities, lots of interior amenities, and stylish looks. However, only the Ram comes with features like a HEMI V8 engine and cutting-edge air suspension. Partially thanks to the suspension system, a Ram truck typically provides a more comfortable ride than a comparable Chevrolet truck. The Ram 1500 also offers a higher maximum payload - 2300 compared to the Silverado 1500, which ranges from 1,870 to 2,280 depending on equipment.

Used Ram 1500 Favorite Features

The Ram 1500 is built to work hard - and you probably already know that. But its brawn is handily matched by its brains, thanks to available features like lane departure warning, adaptive cruise control, and a surround-view camera system. Plus, cutting-edge tech like Ram Digital Key and remote start makes getting on the road a cinch. Of course, available HEMI V8 engines allow you to accelerate effortlessly around Ohio. Other highlights of used Ram 1500 trucks include:

  • Trailer auto-hitch assist
  • Available RamBox integrated locking bed storage bins
